Apple users, we have some news for you. The next time you will download an app, you will have to go through more ads. Starting October 25th, the company will start rolling out two new ad categories to its App store. The news came to light with an email.

In a recent development, Apple is planning to begin selling ad space within the “Today” tab and at the bottom of individual app listings. It is worth noting that, the company will add an icon with a blue background on the advertisements to separate them from other recommendations.

Selling search ads is not something new for Apple, the company has been doing it since 2016. However, previously, the Today tab was reserved for recommendations from Apple’s editorial team. On its official support page, the company states that- “With a Today tab ad, your app can appear prominently on the front page of the App Store — making it some of the first content users see when they begin their App Store visit”.

Apple planning to increase the ads revenue three folds

Apple first revealed that it is planning on bringing ads to the Today tab in July. This comes as a part of the company’s attempt to expand its advertising business. What’s more, we have heard from some sources that the company plans to increase its advertising revenue to $10 billion, which is thrice as much as it is generating right now. Lastly, the American tech giant also plans to add these ads to Maps, Stocks, and News in the coming future. The news might become reality as early as next year. However, there is nothing official about this. Apple has not officially stated that it will bring ads to other places except the App store. So, we will have to wait to see how things pan out in the future.
