For those times when your streaming box’s wand vanishes without a trace, a new Google TV feature will allow users to utilize their Android mobile devices as remote controls.
After announcing the functionality at Google I/O in May, Google TV now has Android smartphone remote capability. A Google spokesman told The Verge that the tool is now only accessible for Android. However, there is no information on potential iOS support.

Support for a mobile remote should be a huge benefit to those of us who are constantly misplacing our wands beneath piles of blankets and pillows. Moreover, it should also speed up operations like entering long or intricate passwords, search phrases, and movie and series titles. Google stated that support would be extended to Android TV OS devices in addition to Google TV.
The remote tool can be accessed in two ways. One is through the Google TV app; the second is by adding the remote tile to quick settings on an Android device (which Google said will be launching in 14 new countries in the coming weeks).
