Many doctors scribble quickly on prescriptions for medications, making it practically impossible for their patients to comprehend what they wrote. Numerous tech companies have tried to address this issue for years with little to no success. Google is the latest entry to list of companies who have tried to save the day. In other words, Google is trying to create a prescriptions deciphering app.

According to TechCrunch, Google stated that it is collaborating with pharmacists on a means to decipher what doctors have written on their prescription pads during its annual Google for India conference. Google has created a research prototype app for deciphering prescriptions that is not yet suitable for usage by the general public.

Users have to click the picture of prescription or upload a digital copy

Users can either take a picture of the prescription or upload one from the photo library with this function, which is still a research prototype and not yet available to the general public. A Google official demonstrated how the software recognizes and highlights the medications indicated in the letter after the image has been processed.

By enhancing the humans involved, such as pharmacists, this will serve as an assistive technology for digitising handwritten medical records. However, Google has said that it won’t take any decision simply based on the output produced by this technology.

It appears that the app will let a pharmacist choose which medication to administer from a specific script in addition to their eyes.

It might be a significant step toward minimising the number of injuries brought on by sloppy handwriting if Google can figure out this technique. The technology is now in research prototype, and Google has not decided whether to launch it or not. Such medical technology might benefit patients not just in India but all throughout the world.
