Telegram is gearing up to release a set of premium features and it will charge users for those features. In a blog post, Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram shared that the company is launching paid Telegram Premium subscription later this month. All of these features are targeted to offer additional features, speed, and resources.

What’s more, Durov suggested that some of the features coming with the subscription include early access to new features, Premium-only stickers and reactions, and the ability to upload larger files. However, the important thing to note here is we are not sure if the existing telegram features will remain free or not. One more thing that we have to see is if the new paid versions will affect the free users’ experience or not. That said, we know non-subscribers can view the larger files shared by the Premium users. They will also be able to view and interact with Premium stickers and reasons.

Telegram Premium was necessary to manage cost

As Durov argues, a Premium subscription will help the service cover some of the costs associated with raising the “already ridiculous” limits on file sizes, conversations, and media. It would go out of hand if made available to all users. Previously also, Durov hinted that a premium Telegram version is in making in 2020.

While the exact scope of Premium features is unknown, it appears that the subscription will appeal to Telegram’s power users. This is something similar to how Twitter Blue provides extra capabilities to the app’s most frequent users. According to information obtained from the beta version of the app, the subscription will cost $4.99 a month; it will include features such as speedier downloads, voice-to-text messages, chat customization options, and more.

Moreover, Premium users will not see adverts in one-to-many channels, according to the beta. This is in accordance with Durov’s previous pledge to provide a mechanism for customers to turn off adverts. However, you will have to pay for all this.

Despite the fact that the project was “more effective” than he anticipated, Durov does not appear to have intentions to expand advertising beyond public media. “I believe Telegram should be paid primarily by its users, rather than advertisements,” writes Durov in his blog post. “In this way, our customers will always come first.” Of course, this prediction is likely to change depending on if Telegram is successful.
