Google is working on adding a new label- highly cited in Search results. It will guide users to trusted sources, the company announced on Thursday. What’s more, the new label will be present in the Top Stories carousel. It identifies stories that are repeatedly cited. Plus, the highly cited label might arrive sooner than you might expect for smartphones in the US. On the other hand, it will make its way to other parts of the globe in the coming weeks.
Moreover, the label will appear on investigative articles, interviews, announcements, press releases, and local news stories, among other things. Google is now focused to use this label to elevate original reporting.

Here is what Google said about the highly cited label
Google in a blog post stated, “Let’s say a local news organization breaks an investigative story looking into problems at your local school district”. “The story is so big that it gets picked up by numerous other media outlets. But what if you didn’t see that original story, which had a unique context for local residents? We’re introducing a way to help you identify stories that have been frequently cited by other news organizations; giving you a simple way to find the most helpful or relevant information for a news story.”
Besides releasing the new highly cited label, Google is also working on expanding its rapidly evolving topics notice. These appear along with breaking news in search results suggesting it might take time to publish information on the topic. Additionally, American users will now see tips to evaluate information online. Plus, it will also remind them to check if it is a trusted source or not.
