Samsung Galaxy S21 Series: Price, Specs, Release Date & All we know so far

SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 SERIES

The year 2020 saw some stunning smartphones, and 3 of them were from the Samsung Galaxy S20 series In fact, this count goes to 4 if we include the Galaxy S20 FE. All in all, the Galaxy S20 bought a pretty awesome phone for the users and delivered great value in every aspect that it could. However, considering the rapid pace of the tech industry and an almost-a-year time period since the launch of the S20 series, it’s time to shift the attention to the next Galaxy S series flagships. Yes, I am talking about the Samsung Galaxy S21 series of phones.

What’s more, this whole article is going to be dedicated to this smartphone series where we are gonna discuss all the aspects of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 series smartphones. Whether your interest is in the release date, specifications, pricing, or anything else, this article will get you covered.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Launch Date (Unpacked Event 2021)

Samsung launches its Galaxy S series flagships every year at the end of the first quarter or at the starting of the second one. And the previous expectations were also the same for the launch of the S21 series. But Samsung is seeming to plan things differently in 2021. In fact, Samsung on January 3rd announced the date for its 2021’s Samsung Unpacked event. Now, the event is set by Samsung to take place on January 14th.

And ever since the existence of the Unpacked event, Samsung has been launching Galaxy S series smartphones. And this year’s Unpacked event is also more than likely to unpack the new Galaxy S21 series flagship. Unfortunately, this year’s Unpacked event is going to be a complete virtual-only launch event instead of a usual huge in-person attending one.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Variants (Regular, Plus, Ultra?)

Previously, we have seen three distinct versions of S series flagships, particularly in the past two years. Specifically, the Galaxy S10 series had the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+, and the S20 series came up with Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. And according to the latest leaks and rumors, 2020 will also be blessed with three versions of Galaxy S21 flagship phones. So, let’s talk more based on leaks and rumors.

Samsung Galaxy S21

Firstly, starting with the Samsung Galaxy S21, the smartphone is going to be the base model of the family. And just like the previous S20 FE and Galaxy Note 10, the S21 is also expected to have a plastic back. There will be a triple rear camera setup on the Galaxy S21 and, it is expected to be cheaper than the previous Galaxy S20, maybe around $850.

Samsung Galaxy S21+

Coming to the Galaxy S21+, the smartphone is better than the regular variant in delivering a flagship user experience, especially in terms of build quality. Moreover, there will be a glass back, bigger display, and better battery backup to justify its “Plus” sign in the name. Previously, the Samsung Galaxy S20+ was the favorite smartphone of many tech experts including me. Therefore, I am really expecting and hoping for the S21+ to keep that title for this year as well.

But most interestingly, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to have the S-Pen support this time, which is awkwardly interesting because S-Pen is one of the signature features of the Galaxy Note Series. It can make the Galaxy S21 Ultra an appealing variant in addition to longer battery life and better cameras. Moreover, there is nothing to get surprised if it gets priced around $1400.

What about Samsung Galaxy S21e?

In case, if you’re planning to enter the Galaxy S21 series by owning a pocket-friendly variant, unfortunately, the Galaxy S21e doesn’t seem to exist. The vanilla Galaxy S21 is the only lowest variant that exists till now in the S21 series and measures 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm which is pretty similar to Galaxy S20.

900 different variants of Galaxy S21 series phones?

There was a leak from a genuine source, Evan Blass circulating over the internet. According to that leak, Samsung may have as many as up to 900 different variants of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series phones planned for the future. There are definitely three main smartphones in the S21 family and further factoring them based on different storage, color, and storage options, we can get a decent variety of unique S21 phones, but it is still indigestible that these variants can range in hundreds.

It is also alleged that the Samsung Galaxy S21 family will have 11 different color variants including, the navy, red, and brown colors. However, we have to wait for Jan 14 to check the correctness of this leak.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Series Price

Pricing is one of those things that can’t be confirmed before the launch. Thus, we don’t have any rock-solid info at the moment. However, what we can do is that we can tell you the expected price of the Galaxy S21 series smartphones. Previously, we have seen a price increment with Galaxy S phones and the Galaxy S20 series phones were the most expensive S series flagships to date.

Here is what I am expecting the prices of the Galaxy S21 series phones will be based on the fresh leaks and rumors.

  • Samsung Galaxy S21 – $850
  • Galaxy S21+ – $1049
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra – $1400

What Apple does becomes a trend for Android smartphones. I am saying this because along with the limited price bump you might also see a limited set of things inside the box. Yes, I am talking about the trend of excluding the power adapter from the phone box. However, this is still very much a rumor and let’s see what happens on the 14th of Jan.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Design

The design of the S21 series phone is going to be similar as well as different from the previous phones. For instance, the front of the smartphones is expected to have a flat display with no huge curves along with a matte finish back design. What’s more, most of the design improvement scope lies at the back of the phone, and Samsung knows it very well.

Samsung is seeming to improve the design and especially the camera bump problem. As a result, the camera bump of S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra is molded to go with the seamless curves of the phone body. Hence, the camera module on S21 will be a treat to watch.

Rather than existing as its own separate block, the camera bumps for the S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra seem to flow seamlessly into the rest of the body. It’s a unique look we haven’t really seen before that we expect people will either love or hate. Thus, the camera bump is no more looking at a separate block at the back.

Moreover, don’t expect a 3.5mm jack in any situation, and the expandable storage is absent on the regular and plus variant. As a result, you will have to go for the S21 Ultra for that flexibility.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Specifications

Samsung is not expected to do something extraordinary with the S21 series. Hence, the phones of this series will have a yearly upgrade with no unusually revolutionized thing set of features. Of course, there are few regular specification upgrades here and there.

Samsung Galaxy S21. S21+ and S21 Ultra Specifications

What’s more, Max Winebach tweeted a long time ago about the S21 Ultra’s camera setup, where he wrote the module to have the 108+10+10+13MP setup on the rear. There are also speculations that the Ultra variant will have two telephoto lenses at different focal lengths, and at least one of them will have a prism mechanism.

Processor and Display

Obviously, the phone is going to feature the Snapdragon 888 SoC along with the upcoming Exynos 2100 for some other regions. Further, there will be 5G connectivity in the smartphones as the SD 888 comes with an integrated 5G modem and the Exynos 2100 is also expected to follow the same. 120Hz AMOLED display, coupled with an ample amount of RAM and storage, and at least 3 rear cameras are definitely a thing that I’ll appreciate in the upcoming S21s.

The S20 phones were exciting mainly because of the 120Hz display and 5G connectivity and were providing a good reason to S10 users to upgrade. But what’s exciting in the S21 series? Well, at least for the S21 Ultra, it is alleged that there will be a 120Hz refresh rate at the QHD resolution. In a leak from Ice Universe, we can clearly see that the Galaxy S21 Ultra can be set to WQHD+ resolution (3200×1440) while being in the “Adaptive” mode.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Software (One UI 3.1)

In One UI 3.0, Samsung has done something that we personally liked a lot. As a matter of fact, Samsung has provided Android 11’s best features in this UI enabling Samsung phones to provide a better Android experience. But Samsung has planned to launch the One UI 3.1 alongside the Galaxy S21 series.

Moreover, you can expect a better camera and display as these are the main focusing departments in the coming upgrade. But you’ll also get to see some software enhancements for a better UI experience.

Furthermore, a YouTuber named Jimmy Is Promo posted a video regarding the Galaxy S21 Ultra running One UI 3.1 showcasing some of its features. For instance, you will be able to “Continue apps on other devices” which will let you transfer your ongoing work to a supported Samsung device. Further, there will be an option to unlock your Galaxy S21 with your voice via Bixby as per SamMobile, and a lot more.
