Apple has started upgrading almost all AirPods models (AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max) to firmware 4A400. The standard, non-Pro, non-Max AirPods appear to have received little from this update. On the other hand, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max acquired an additional “Find My” feature. Plus, AirPods Pro now supports a feature called “Conversation Boost.”

Features that 4A400 Firmware Brings To AirPods

Previously, you could use Find My to ping your AirPods to spot them among sofa cushions or to find where your AirPods were when they were last linked with your apple device. However, the AirPods Pro and Max now can use the same Find My network of millions of iOS to pinpoint lost AirTags. If you misplace your headphones, other iOS devices nearby may locate them and notify your Find My app with their position.

You could even use the “Find Nearby” function to pinpoint your AirPods Pro or AirPods Max. However, the accuracy is less than a misplaced AirTag. Moreover, you can be notified if your AirPods become separated from your phone.

Conversation Boost is also included in the firmware update for AirPods Pro. If you’ve used AirPods Pro earlier, you’ve probably heard of Transparency mode; it is a kind of reverse noise cancellation. It employs the same fundamentals as that feature to magnify incoming audio from the outside instead of suppressing it.

Using the headphones’ beam-forming microphones, Conversation Boost gets a little more accurate and focuses on voices. Even if you’re listening to music and in a busy environment, this function should allow you to comprehend individuals speaking to you while you have your AirPods Pro in your ears.

Conversation Boost is not just an additional default noise-control setting like Transparency or Noise Cancellation which can be switched in Control Center. Instead, it can be switched on in the Settings app’s Accessibility panel.
