You may thank your large, fat phone if you want to know why Corning created Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the new glass the company introduced today.
The benchmark weight when Corning started testing on mobile devices 15 years ago to create unbreakable glass was 160g, which was heavier than the 135g initial iPhone. Compare this to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which weighs 228 grams, the iPhone 14 Pro, which is a whopping 206 grams, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is 240 grams. That is enough about the history, let’s get back to the recent events.
Corning even provided a press release in which it discussed how the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 survived a one-meter drop test onto a model of concrete without suffering any damage. Given that Corning has discussed how other manufacturers’ products fail the same test, the corporation seems to be rather confident in its most recent glass.
Good news regarding the rollout: according to the company’s press release, “anticipated to reach the market within the next several months,” your next smartphone may have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front.

Is it foldable?
As we’re on the subject of bold designs, We had to inquire about bendable glass. Currently, Corning doesn’t offer a flexible product, but in the future, the company might.
Corning is in “deep dialogue with all big customers on where they’re heading,” according to Velasquez, who also confirmed this. Some have progressed more than others.”
It’s really, really difficult to have glass bend and touch itself, which makes working with customers to enable bendable designs amazing. It’s among the most challenging issues you can think of. Where the challenge is really challenging, Corning frequently excels. Our scientists enjoy getting their hands dirty with that.
Although Corning makes some extremely big statements, I would not advise you to subject your phone to the same rigorous testing that Corning used to evaluate the Victus 2.
