ASUS has started releasing BIOS updates that will add motherboard support for Windows 11. The new updates will bring out Windows 11 support to even those processors that are not compatible with the new version of OS. From the time, Microsoft has introduced Windows 11, there is a lot of confusion about the hardware compatibility requirements for installing the OS. The company has not done a lot to remove that confusion, in fact, it has added to the confusion. Users are not sure if they have to replace their hardware. Meanwhile, the new updates from ASUS further add to confusion. Since they are reported to add support to Intel CPUs that Microsoft doesn’t officially support for the release. These CPUs include Skylake (6th Gen) and Kaby Lake (7th Gen). As per Microsoft, 8th Gen and above Intel CPUs are supported by Windows 11.

What changes do the new updates cause?
The new BIOS updates from ASUS activate TPM on the users’ machine; if it is not already turned on BIOS level. Previously, ASUS released a beta BIOS version that introduced support for Windows 11 on Z270, H270, and B250 motherboards. It also launched a hub page with compatibility status for a number of its motherboard releases.
The company has mentioned the names of the motherboards that are compatible with Windows 11 under current testing on respective motherboard support pages. Moreover, the upgradability of these motherboards is subject to support from OS or 3rd party drivers availability. It means that even if ASUS has added support for Windows 11 preview version with this hardware, there is no guarantee, retail Windows 11 version will support these CPUs.
