NH-D12L: A New 120mm Dual Tower CPU Cooler from Noctua

Noctua has introduced the NH-D12L small dual tower CPU cooler and the NF-A12x25r round-frame 120 mm fan. Many 4U enclosures and slimmer tower cases that formerly required 92 mm fans can now use this low-profile fan. In terms of performance, it outperforms many full-height 120 mm variants thanks to its five Heatpipe dual-tower architecture and cutting-edge NF-A12x25r 120 mm fan.

“Until recently, all of our 120 mm class coolers were 158 mm high, but more and more PC cases only accept up to 150 or even 145 mm, which is where the NH-D12L comes in,” Roland Mossig adds (Noctua CEO). “Simply reducing one of our existing models wasn’t an option because a regular square 120 mm fan would cause a slew of problems with motherboard heatsinks or shrouds,” says the designer. That’s why we created this unique dual tower design, as well as a round-frame version of the NF-A12x25 fan that can be mounted in a very low position between the two towers – a winning combination that delivers outstanding results in this height class.”

NH-D12L size

The NH-D12L is only 145 mm tall, while Noctua’s normal 120 mm CPU coolers are 158 mm tall. This allows it to accommodate a wide range of 4U rackmount server cases and many tower-style enclosures that aren’t wide enough for 158 mm units, as well as several bigger SFF and Mini-ITX chassis. The NH-D12L outperforms 92 mm coolers despite its shorter height.

It can even surpass renowned 120 mm units such as the NH-U12S and often comes close to Noctua’s award-winning 120 mm flagship model NH-U12A.

Due to its asymmetric design, the NH-D12L does not overhang the RAM slots on Intel LGA1700/LGA1200/LGA115x and AMD AM4/AM5 based motherboards, which ensures easy access to the modules and 100% compatibility with DIMMs that feature tall heat-spreaders or RGB lighting.
