The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which will power most flagship Android devices in 2022, has finally arrived at the scene; Qualcomm has just revealed the chipset. According to earlier reports, every big Android OEM from Xiaomi to Samsung will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. If Qualcomm is to be believed, there following are the improvements that 8 Gen 1 delivers over the Snapdragon 888:

  • 20% faster CPU performance
  • 30% more power-efficient CPU
  • 30% GPU performance improvements
  • 25% GPU-related power savings

While Qualcomm did not go into great detail on the SD 8 Gen 1 in its presentation, the company has based the SoC on ARM’s latest ARMv9 architecture. What’s more, the SoC also includes a high-performance Cortex-X2 core that matches the Dimensity 9000. As a result, it can turbo to 3.0 GHz when needed. The SD 8 Gen 1 might also feature Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 cores, as earlier leaks have stated.

Qualcomm managed all of these performance enhancements in part by using a 4 nm process for manufacturing the SD 8 Gen 1.

Furthermore, Qualcomm claims that the forthcoming SoC features an unidentified Adreno component as the GPU. It is up to 60% faster in Vulkan than the Snapdragon 888. Qualcomm is expected to call the GPU ‘Adreno 730’, according to sources. In any case, Qualcomm claims that its new mobile GPU will deliver “desktop-level gaming.”

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will include enhanced AI capabilities.

Moreover, Qualcomm emphasizes the SoC’s improved AI capabilities, claiming that its 7th generation AI engine can deliver up to 4x AI performance. In addition, the SD 8 Gen 1 contains an 18-bit triple ISP that runs in the background. Snapdragon Sight. This ISP is said to be capable of processing photos from three cameras in the background or up to 240 photographs collected at 12 MP in one second.
