After a whirlwind of rumors and speculations, we finally have a date for the launch of the Nothing Phone 2. Slated for release on July 11th at 16:00 BST, this new entrant in the smartphone market is expected to make quite a splash. With a confirmed launch in India via Flipkart, the anticipation is palpable.
The second smartphone from Nothing promises a lot of improvements over its predecessor. As the company learns and evolves, the Phone 2 is expected to be among the standout launches this year.
Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect from this device.
Design and Display: The Evolution Continues
The company has been teasing the design of Phone 2 on Twitter, giving us glimpses of its silhouette and close-ups. The Phone 2 exhibits a subtle facelift with a return of transparent elements and an eye-catching red LED.
They will once again make the mid-frame from aluminum, sourced from 100% recycled materials, and produce it entirely using renewable energy. This eco-friendly approach extends to its packaging, which will be plastic-free.
The Phone 2 also brings back the distinctive glyph lighting, but with more individual elements that allow for complex animations. You can remix the light shows using a new app that Swedish House Mafia developed in partnership, promising a unique notification experience.
The display gets a bump up to a 6.7in screen, aligning it with flagship rivals like the Google Pixel 7 Pro.
We expect the screen resolution to max out at FHD+ and it will feature a center-mounted punch-hole selfie cam.
Hardware and Software: A Significant Upgrade
At MWC 2023, it was announced that the Phone 2 would be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This marks a significant upgrade from the 778G+ that powered the Phone 1. It may not be the best of the best, but it promises a good bang for your buck.
According to the company, the Phone 2 offers twice as fast app opening speed compared to the Phone 1, with an overall performance improvement of 80%. It also boasts a larger 4700mAh battery and could support up to 67W charging.
The Phone 2 will come with NothingOS 2.0, offering custom widgets, a customized UI, and overhauled icons.
Cameras: Time for an Upgrade

The camera performance of the Nothing Phone 1 was not its strong suit. With the Phone 2 positioned as a more premium option, it is crucial for the company to prioritize camera improvements.
We expect the upcoming upgrade to introduce a dual-lens setup, with each lens sporting an impressive 50MP sensor. Additionally, we anticipate the front camera to be a 32MP selfie snapper.
Although no specific details are available yet, the powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a faster ISP, and optimized image processing should enable the Phone 2 to capture much better photos than its predecessor.
With the launch just around the corner, the Nothing Phone 2 is expected to bring a host of improvements and new features. Will it live up to the hype? We’ll find out soon.
