The Google Pixel 6 is expected to be the company’s most significant smartphone release since the original Pixel devices in 2016. The company is launching a smartphone with its own unique SoC for the first time. However, that’s not the only important shift coming. According to the rumors, Google is going all-in on the Pixel 6’s camera. That too, not just with the software but also with new hardware.

The phone has previously been leaked in great detail (and Google has been riding shotgun), but XDA Developers has gotten their hands on an unpublished version of the Google Camera app, as well as some specifics on how the Pixel 6 camera will work, and it looks incredible. A 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor is said to be the primary camera sensor.

This would be a significant improvement above the 12.2MP IMX363 sensor used by Google since the debut of the Pixel 3 in 2018. In the case of the Pixel 6 Pro, we also have a 12MP IMX386 sensor for the wide-angle camera and a 48MP IMX586 sensor for the 4x optical telephoto camera. It is also capable of shooting 4K at 60fps video at up to 7X zoom.

We may also have some intriguing new software camera features, which is predictable given Google’s focus on software and Pixel cameras’ reputation for superior processing rather than raw camera horsepower. There are a few key points to remember here. Manual white balance modifications are one of them. This should allow you to change the settings in your photos on the go.

The magic eraser is the most exciting new feature; based on the name, it appears to be a reintroduction of the object removal function. The feature was meant to come to Google Photos but never did.
