OnePlus is now rolling out OxygenOS 11.0.5.1 for the older OnePlus 7 and 7T series devices. The new update is carrying the December 2021 security patch alongside an essential fix for a bug.
However, it is important to note that the update is based on Android 11, not the Android 12 build. OnePlus has previously rolled out the update based on Android 12 to other devices. Anyways, the update is a Christmas gift from the company to its customers. It includes several key features, including the latest security patch before the year’s end. On top of that, the OxygenOS 11.0.5.1 is also carrying a fix for a WhatsApp issue. The issue was preventing selected devices from sending and receiving media through WhatsApp.
OnePlus revealed that OxygenOS 11.0.5.1 will arrive gradually to all the devices. In other words, you might not receive the update instantly, you will have to wait for it. The original posts also state that using VPN to download the global build may not work. Since the rollout is not based on regions; it will be rolled out to a limited number of devices randomly.
