The Google Pixel 6 series will get only 3 years of OS updates

Google highlighted the fact that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will receive up to five years of security upgrades at their Tuesday unveiling. At that event, the company forgot to mention how many years they would continue to provide the OS update.

For this reason, people misunderstood that the company would provide four years of longer OS update supports. But now, we know the exact time duration for both of the updates from the Pixel support Page.

Both Pixel devices will only receive OS updates until 2024, as per the page. That implies they could not get upgrades after Android 15, but they’ll still have security updates until 2026.

However, the Pixel support isn’t bad at all because there are few Android phones that promise 4-years of security updates. Even after the company stops the OS updates, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be getting 2-years of security updates (A total of 5 years of security updates).

Moreover, on the support page, the team said that they “guaranteed” OS updates until “at least” 2024. So, there can be a little chance of getting support even after the mentioned years. However, the possibility will be very less.

Many people had hoped for four years of OS upgrades based on rumors, but this will not happen. However, if you purchase a Pixel 6 smartphone through pixel pass, upgrading your phone in two years will be simple. So, for people who upgrade their phones every 1-2 years, this isn’t awful news.
