Xiaomi has recently announced that the forthcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro will feature the new Sony IMX707 sensor. It will be the first phone to feature the new Sony sensor as the primary camera. If we go into details about the sensor, it is a 50MP sensor with a 1/1.28-inch sensor size, 1.22μm pixel size, and 2.44um fusion large pixels.
Digital Chat Station, a renowned leaker, has revealed that this sensor is similar to last year’s IMX 700 sensor with a small facelift. Besides that, both the sensors are near-identical. Apart from Digital Chat Station, one other leaker, Todo Plus has revealed that there is no significant performance difference between the IMX707 and its predecessor. If this turns out correct, it means that Sony has re-released last year’s IMX700. Though, it will feature slight tweaks.

Furthermore, Digital Chat Station also says that both the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro won’t feature the Samsung sensors. The company will use Sony sensors with great emphasis on experience. The Samsung ones were used on Xiaomi Mi 11 series. The Vanilla Xiaomi 12 will feature the Sony IMX766 sensor. This one is a little smaller, with a sensor size of 1/1.56-inch, but it’s still bigger than the iPhone 13’s sensor size of 1/1.88-inch. What’s more, Xiaomi’s new “Image Brain” will increase the performance of both the IMX707 and IMX766 cameras. It should deliver faster image processing and better photos of fast-moving objects.
Moreover, the Sony IMX707 camera sensor appears to excel in low-light shooting. The official photographs demonstrating the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s night photography capabilities have been released.
