Xiaomi 13 Pro Design and Build quality

Xiaomi has made quite a few changes to the design of the 13 Pro smartphone. The device remains quite sleek but the camera module is too big this time specifically when compared with the older variants.

The new change in the camera module comes from Xiaomi’s new partnership with the camera-producing firm Leica. The company has added significant upgrades to the rear sensors. However, the sensors need to look better. The older models were better if we compare purely based on looks.

Besides that, the Xiaomi 13 Pro also comes with a ceramic back instead of a glass rear. As a result, the total weight has increased significantly to 229gm, making it one of the heaviest phones on the market.

Although the global version of this device comes with an IP68 rating, the Indian version lacks an IP68 rating. We don’t know the reason behind this strange decision by Xiaomi, We think they did it to keep the price low.

In terms of colors, users won’t find many options; they have to choose either one of two, black or white.

Overall, the built quality and feel of the new 13 Pro device are impressive, except for one or two things.

Screen & speakers

If we talk about the display on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the display is almost identical to the 12 Pro, with one or two tweaks. In fact, it is functionally the same for most people. That is not surprising; the Xiaomi 12 Pro has one of the best displays you can find on a smartphone.

Specifically, users will get a larger 6.73-inch, 1400×3200 LTPO 10 bit OLED panel. The display comes equipped with adaptive refresh rate tech, so it can automatically be set to anywhere between 1 and 120Hz, depending on the circumstances. Adaptive refresh becomes quite impressive in prolonging battery life. Further, users can manually set it to 60Hz to 120Hz. The display also offers 1900 nits of peak brightness levels, which is quite impressive.

As for the speakers, Xiaomi has ditched the 12 Pro’s quad-speaker system for some reason; instead, users will get a stereo setup. The device offers balanced audio output, the audio is loud, the vocals are great, highs are fine with a hint of bass. There is also support for Dolby Atmos.

Camera & video

As discussed earlier, Xiaomi has partnered with Leica to develop cameras for the 13 series. So, there were a lot of changes that we were expecting. Now, the primary rear sensor is much larger than the predecessor. Moreover, the telephoto lens is also much more significant, with 50MP offering 3.2x optical zoom. Besides, there is a 50MP ultra-wide lens offering a 115-degree of field view. The camera features several different modes, including background blur, ‘Leica Vibrant,’ and ‘Leica Authentic’ modes. On the front, there is a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.

The camera on Xiaomi 13 Pro is capable of recording up to 8K at 24fps. However, users must enable this setting as the camera is set to 1080p at 30fps by default.

Battery & charging

Battery life was one of the significant issues of the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Still, Xiaomi has resolved that. The new smartphone features a larger 4,800mAh battery. The smartphone also features an improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 power efficiency.

Overall, the battery life of this device is excellent.

In fact, the PCMark battery test has revealed that the smartphone lasted over 11 hours under typical real-world scenarios. In addition to that, the smartphone also features support for 120W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Xiaomi 13 Pro Software & updates

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is among the first Xiaomi smartphones to come preloaded with Android 13 out of the box. The smartphone features MIUI 14 skin over the top. In terms of software updates, Xiaomi is offering three years of android updates and four years of security patches. In simple words, users can expect Android 14, 15, and 16 plus patches.

Xiaomi 13 Pro Pricing

As expected, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is costly. As a matter of fact, it is among the most expensive smartphones in the market.

Xiaomi has released the Xiaomi 13 Pro at a starting price of Rs 79,999; the pricing is in the same segment as the iPhone 14 and S23, respectively. However, with the ICICI bank offer, you can get this device for 69,999. The device is relatively more expensive than the OnePlus 11. It is worth mentioning that the OnePlus smartphone comes equipped with the same chipset. What’s more, there are a lot of common things between the two smartphones.

Pros
  • Excellent build & premium finish
  • Leica-tuned high-end camera experience
  • Solid battery life
  • Fast & smooth performance with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC
  • Excellent LTPO OLED panel that supports Dolby Vision and offers a bright display.
  • Fast 120W charging
Cons
  • The phone is on the heavier side

  • No 4K video recording on selfie camera

 Conclusion

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is a premium smartphone with several impressive upgrades and features. From its sleek design to its impressive display, camera, and battery performance, this smartphone has a lot to offer. Overall, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is an excellent choice for those who want the best in terms of performance and features. Still, there may be more affordable options.
